WHISPER will participate in SMM Hamburg from 1–4 September 2026, bringing the project’s work to one of the maritime industry’s leading international events. During the first three days of SMM, WHISPER partners and collaborators will take part in two stage presentations and host two networking events. Together, these activities will offer opportunities to learn about the project’s latest developments, discuss the practical application of renewable energy technologies on commercial vessels and meet members of the WHISPER community.
During the course of the SMM, you can also find project partners OceanWings (Hall A4 / 324), Stirling Design International (Hall B7 / 617), and Lloyd’s Register (Hall B2 ground floor / 198) at their respective booths.

1 September, 16:00–16:10 NEMOSHIP & WHISPER Projects: The Role of Electrification and Wind Propulsion Exhibitor Innovation Stage, Hall B5
Thibaut Tincelin, president of Stirling Desisgn International, and Kåre Magne Kjeka, Mechanical Development Engineer at SOLSTAD will present the WHISPER and NEMOSHIP and WHISPER projects in a joint session exploring the contribution of electrification and wind propulsion to cleaner maritime transport. The session will be introduced by Gabriel Mialocq, Head of Sector for Waterborne and Aviation Research and Innovation – European Commission at CINEA.
2 September, 11:30–11:40 Retrofitting Wind at Scale: Lessons from the Maria Topic Bulk Carrier Exhibitor Innovation Stage, Hall B5
OceanWings’ COO Romain Grandsart will share key engineering, installation and industrial lessons from the Maria Topic retrofit. Developed through WHISPER, the project will make Maria Topic the first bulk carrier to be retrofitted with an OceanWings rigid wingsail. View the session in the SMM programme
